Dead Hives and alive hives

A Good Repair company is always needed

Bad Repairs and what to expect

This is an interesting topic since not many people even think about what will happen after they have bees removed from their home, business, or wherever. A bad repair job can cost thousands of dollars and still not solve the problem. “WHAT?” You may be thinking, how, could I still have a problem after a repair job that goes bad. There are a few ways to avoid costly repairs, but also repairs that will not be done correctly. We will detail them below. The first being, if you have ever had the hive exterminated, you will have problems in the future.

What happens to the honey comb

Bee removal is a very detailed and delicate process. The bees will keep a hive well kept and all of the honeycomb will stay up in the area where it is located all together; however, if something were to disturb the bees ecosystem, you will easily have honey, and wax, melting and dripping into the wood and all of the cracks and crevices it could sink into. When the bees are removed alive, the amount of honey that drips out of the comb is reduced to a minimum, and can be easily cleaned up by the beekeeper and the neighborhood bees, who will “rob” the old honey from the hive. They are actually the best clean up crew and help clean the hive even better than someone trying to clean out the area where the hive was. Simply Youtube “Robber bees”. Bee Hives can be Large

Bee hive can be massive. We routinely remove hives that are approximately 200 lbs of honey comb, bees and baby bees. All good portion of the bees will have honey inside of them, and then the roughly 150 lbs of honey and comb are also all in tact and clean when the bees are alive. When the bees are exterminated, then you can imagine what happens. The bees fall down dead and throw up any honey that is inside of them. This can be a very significant amount of honey about 50 lbs worth. The honey comb will also melt in the right temperature and fall, as well as the wax, if it gets hot enough melt and fall. If the bee hive is in a ceiling of a roof, or a wall, or both, you will have a huge amount of wax and honey melting down the walls and roof, seeping into the wood and dripping through whatever cracks it comes in contact with. Most homeowners witness the dripping through AC vents, Lights, Light switches, Speakers, or any other openings. What they don’t see is the wax and honey seeping into the walls and wood or block of the area.

This can become a huge nightmare for homeowners. Unfortunately there is little to be done as far as removing the honey and wax from the areas except to have a beekeeper clean up as much as possible. After they leave, a good repairman who knows what he’s doing should be called in. The repairman should have a very good knowledge of bees, by either being a beekeeper or have done a lot of repairs for beekeepers. The reason is, they will be looking at the repairs similar to how a mold remediation company looks at remediating mold in a building. If there is too much honey and wax to stop from seeping into the house, then a significant portion of the area may need to be removed. Most repair people know how to handle a situation like this and it rarely turns out bad.

Going with a cheap handyman

Where things go wrong is someone trying to hire a handyman, or a repair company that thinks they can repair anything. The fallacy in doing this is trusting that the repairman knows anything about honey which is far different than any other substance typically found in homes and businesses. Honey is viscus like oil, but will also attract flies, maggots, and other insects including more bees in the future. Most repair people, hardly ever deal with bees unless they work closely with a beekeeper. Abellobees.com always has a repair company ready to help to repairs to the affected area. We also freely give out our repair information to help other repair people do the job right; however, we cannot guarantee the work of someone who we haven’t worked with in the past.

Get it all Done Right

This is another problem with hiring a cheap, handyman or a repairman. They will usually be scared and the first sight of any bees and think that there is still a bee hive when there isn’t, they will cut corners or not know how to properly repair everything correctly even though the information is given. They will likely patch up the area, and in the nightmare scenario new bees move right back in, or residual honey and comb that was missed by the repairman will start to drip into the building.
